The PhD program at PGTA is committed to educating outstanding scholars who who will lead in their fields of research, advance water resources and sanitation education, and go on to teach at the world’s most prestigious universities.
Doctorate students fulfill their coursework and methodology requirements by taking advantage of the more than 30 subjects offered at PGTA — in addition to hundreds more offered across UFMS. The following is a list of obligatory subjects for Doctorate students:
- Design of experiments
- Teaching Internship
- International activity
- Mathematics Applied to Water Resources
- Scientific Method
In addition to taking elective classes, students are expected to present a review paper and the research project.
After students complete the classes, the stage is set for them to begin work on a thesis, the most unstructured and difficult part of doctorate studies. Students must choose a topic, define it to the satisfaction of a faculty committee, investigate it thoroughly, and write the thesis. The final step before achieving the doctorate is a public defense seminar, which is open to the entire community.
